Our Beginning

The Executive Group was founded in Billings, MT in May 1985. For seven years previous, our founder and president had been an executive recruiter in Denver, CO. While he learned his business acumen in a traditional search firm setting, he soon recognized that there was a better way to conduct the search process.

What he noticed about the esthetics of most recruiting firms was that they were staffed by highly competitive and often obtrusive individuals who were concerned only with quick sales and short-term profits. Because they focused on candidate placements, and not the long-term satisfaction of clients, often candidate and corporate information was rarely shared with the other staff so candidate exposure was limited to luck and the efforts of one individual recruiter. He realized that by focusing on the client's needs and sharing that information with other recruiters in the office, the process was better served since client requirements were compared to more candidate backgrounds and skill sets, thus ensuring a better match. By concentrating on client satisfaction, The Executive Group became more of a strategic partner with client companies and an integral part of their ongoing planning.

Those first few years were humble beginnings. Assisted by his wife, our president began executive recruiting and search efforts for the commercial banking industry and initiated an executive recruiting network of banking contacts. Originally, the territory was limited to the Northern Rocky Mountains but quickly expanded to 24 Western, Midwestern and Southwestern States. Even the office equipment had modest beginnings, consisting of a two-line telephone system, a copier and a manual typewriter! Eventually fax machines, mainframe computers, PC's, additional phone lines, Internet and website technology were added along with additional staff.

Today, The Executive Group is made up of highly competent search recruiters and a research staff who share a database of over 140,000 contacts in the finance-related field. Our process can search and identify candidates on a nationwide scope or find appropriate matches within a single zip code zone. We have worked with the largest banking giants in search of a president just as diligently as the down-home rural bank hiring an agricultural loan officer. Although technology has enhanced our performance and speed of delivery, it has not changed our core objective, namely to deliver the finest in executive search placement by coupling a time-proven search process with integrity and high-quality results.
